Madison Home manages six programs, each of which has been successfully operating as intended. We are deeply grateful for the community's continued support in making these community-driven initiatives possible. One of these programs, the Transitional Living program, was launched for the first time in April 2024. This program is set to transition at the end of its pre-designated six-month timeframe, as we prepare the building for its role as an emergency winter shelter.

To expedite affordable housing placements before the end of the summer, we made staffing changes within the Transitional Living program. Such adjustments are a normal part of optimizing the use of donations and grant funds in any non-profit organization. We firmly believe in accountability and recognized that the salaries of a few staff members should not constitute the major overhead expense. We have since hired staff at a significantly lower cost who are committed to staying at the building day and night, rather than working only as visiting staff. Notably, two of the new night supervisors are former residents of Madison Home. We are pleased to report that by restructuring this costly program, Madison Home has saved thousands of dollars in donor contributions while simultaneously accelerating housing placements into low-income housing.

Our volunteer board is diligently working to complete these placements before the end of summer. The new staff is dedicated to assisting the homeless 24/7, ensuring that someone is always present at the building to offer help. Unlike other programs, Madison Home is not merely a daytime facility; it is the only institution of its kind in the area that has prevented encampments on city streets by providing safe, emergency shelter for the homeless during inclement weather and in crisis situations.

We are also pleased to announce that our winter emergency shelter is on track to keep people warm and safe at our 5th Street building from December 15th to March 15th. The shelter may open earlier or remain open beyond these dates if necessary, depending on weather conditions. As we finalize the housing placement program, preparation and necessary renovations will be completed before freezing temperatures set in.

We invite you to assist us in the placement efforts, and we kindly ask for your continued donations to support our mission.
